The conception of Grassland began in 2006, in the small metropolis of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Three West Michigan musicians: Steve “Ringer” Hammond (guitar, writer), Steve “G” Gatlin (drums, lyricist), Mike “Grass” Patterson (bass, technical bad-ass), sought complementary players of proper taste and mindset. Their mantra was, “SAVE THE DRAMA FO YO MAMA!” Musicianship, of course, was the key ingredient for this recipe of modern and classic musical influences that was to be a staple of the Grassland sound. After a few gut-wrenching auditions for a singer, a fitting one appeared. Kirk “Captain” Nagle stepped up to the plate, delivering convincing vocal ability, securing his spot as front man. Where needed, he now increasingly lends his percussion talents, as well as a helping hand with lyrics. On the advice from Tahvey Hampton, Grasslands chi-master and spiritual guru, Brian "Newman" Hilaski was introduced from a former Wolfbrutha. Brian, a positive, motivated individual with the knack for creating his own style and riffs is the last puzzle piece of the envisioned twin-guitar assault an individual who’s blues-rock influences mesh and compliment perfectly with Hammond’s signature riffs of sonic fury. If you ask any of Grassland’s members, “What is your sound?” they would reply, “organic boogie backbeat Rock N Roll, performing all original compositions!!!!!!” “The best unknown rock group that you’ve never heard of!” --Tahvey Hampton The Rock On Daily
