Hamish Napier is a regular on Glasgow’s buzzing Scottish Folk Scene, and has played in dozens of recording sessions, ceilidhs and concerts with leading Scottish musicians from bands such as Croft Number Five and Old Blind Dogs, and has worked with producers such as Martyn Bennet and Donald Shaw. Hamish Napier is a regular on Glasgow’s buzzing Scottish Folk Scene, and has played in dozens of recording sessions, ceilidhs and concerts with leading Scottish musicians from bands such as Croft Number Five and Old Blind Dogs, and has worked with producers such as Martyn Bennet and Donald Shaw. He plays piano, keyboards, flute, whistle, sings and dances (Cape Breton Stepdance). He was a finalist in the 'Young Scottish Traditional Musician of the Year Award 2006' and was nominated for 'Best Up and Coming Artist' at the Scots Trad Awards 2005. For seven years he played with award-winning folk quartet Back of the Moon, touring extensively throughout Europe, Canada, and the USA. In 2005 the band were awarded the title of 'Best Folk Band' at the Scots Trad Awards and were also nominated in the 'Best Album' category for their last album ‘Luminosity.’ As well as teaching piano, whistle and group-work class at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music at Plockton High School, he lectures at Stow College’s Traditional Music course in Glasgow. Originally from Grantown-on-Spey, in the Highlands of Scotland, Hamish learned classical flute and piano from the age of nine, taking up Traditional music as a teenager through the Feisean movement. He is currently looking to go into full time study on a jazz course next year.
