Israel Ka'ano'i Kamakawiwo'ole ("Iz") was born at Kuakini Hospital in Honolulu to Henry Kaleialoha Naniwa Kamakawiwo'ole, Jr., and Evangeline Leinani Kamakawiwo'ole. He was raised in the community of Kaimuki, where his parents had met and married. He began playing music with his older brother Skippy at the age of 11, being exposed to the music of Hawai'ian entertainers of the time such as Peter Moon, Palani Vaughn, and Don Ho, who frequented the establishment where Iz's parents worked.
In his early teens, he studied at Upward Bound (UB) of the University of Hawaii at Hilo and his family moved to Makaha, Hawaii. There, he met Louis "Moon" Kauakahi, Sam Gray, and Jerome Koko[2]. Together with his brother Skippy they formed the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau. From 1976 throughout the 1980s, the Hawaiian contemporary band gained in popularity as they toured Hawai'i and the continental United States and released fifteen successful albums.
In 1982 Iz's brother Skippy Kamakawiwo'ole died of a heart attack. In that same year, Israel(IZ) married his childhood sweetheart Marlene and soon after had a daughter whom they named Ceslieanne "Wehi".

My wish is for the wold world the hear
"Somwhere Over the Rainbow" by this artist.
It truly outshines Garland. His beautiful sweet face and the music of his soul will be with us forever.
I would love to have this on my web site.
I know it's not possible; but it would just be one small way to reach and touch the listner. The lyrics nerver touched much me until they came from Iz and his gifted way to bring it to us!
With all my heart and love.

Hay canciones que, sin saber por que, las hacemos nuestras...
"Somewhere, over the Rainbow" (En algún lugar, más allá del Arco Iris) es una de ellas.
