  • Mizar was formed by keyboardist-singer-songwriter Fanni Sárközy, guitarist-songwriter Péter Schneider and drummer-percussionist Gábor Pusztai in early 2002, with Gyula Gáspár helping out on bass. Although each founding member plays with a number of other acts, we believe we need a place besides session work where we can implement our own musical ideas. Mizar’s core line-up has remained unchanged throughout the years and many musician friends graced us with their playing, notably Tamás „Tobzy” Kovács on percussion (TNT, Folkestra), András Jász (Budapest Jazz Orchestra) and Dániel Váczi (Váczi Dániel Trio) on saxophones, Mátyás Szabó on percussion, Gerg-- Baranyi (NOX), Nikola Parov (of Riverdance – USA) and many others. It is not easy to classify the genre of Mizar’s music. Composer Fanni Sárközy takes care that our songs fit a wide but homogeneous spectrum of musical styles. Her songs combine the harmonies, song structure and improvisational approach of jazz with pop melodies and grooves. Occasionally, we also employ elements of folk and world music to enrich the instrumentation of our songs. In industry terms, Mizar’s music would probably be labeled as “smooth jazz”, a style perhaps not that widely known in Hungary. In recent years, while playing at a number of concerts and festivals, we also wrote music for several films and harvested 18 prizes at 8 different music contests (usually first and second prizes, special awards for best instrumentalist or best musical arrangement, audience award). One of these awards that stands out is the most recent one: The song “Újra a parton” (On The Shore Again) won the first prize at the song contest of Budapest’s prestigious Jazzy Radio station. 2007 saw the release of our first album, “Leszek én…” (And I’ll Be…). The 13 tracks on the CD include the award-winning “Újra a parton” which peaked at no.3 on 90.9 Jazzy Radio’s TOP 10 in November, 2007.
